Public access is provided via a hiking trail accessible at the end of Butler Road, but visitors must stay on the trail, as the rest of the property is privately owned.
unique features
The property is completely forested, contains a small lake and numerous vernal pools that serve as critical wildlife habitat. It adjoins Princeton Blairstown Center, and is in close proximity to Ridge and Valley Conservancy’s Limestone Forest Preserve and the Bennett Farm, preserved by Warren County, creating a significant greenway. The dense, forested slopes of the property are an important buffer to Blair Creek, provide habitat for songbirds and large mammals, and protect groundwater supplies. Views of the Paulinskill Valley to the east are afforded.
History
The conservation easement on Sunset Ridge Preserve was acquired by bargain-sale purchase in 2012, in partnership with Hardwick Township, using grants from the Garden State Preservation Trust, the Warren County Open Space Trust Fund, Hardwick Township, Conservation Resources, Inc., and The Common Waters Fund.
