Sip and Art Soirees will start up again on April 28th! This year's sessions will focus on landscape painting. Sessions will be held every other Friday, on 4/28, 5/12, 5/26 and 6/2. Cost of this program is $60. (If you are interested you may also want to check out the free landscape painting lecture on April 14, details on this events page).
Longtime member and supporter Chris Hepburn has very kindly offered to let us use her barn in Hardwick, New Jersey again.
The Landscape like other art genres is another vehicle for personal expressing. It tells us much about the moment in time in which we are living. Friedrich (featured painting) works from the Romantic period looks starkly different from a Cezanne or Van Gogh painting at the end of the 19th century.
In spite of the cultural developments, landscape art consistently uses the same compositional devices and formal techniques that make these works masterworks.
Painting in April may still be too chilly to work outside. We will be taking a series of photographs , look at composition with a view to painting; then through drawing from these eventually produce a series of landscape paintings.
It is hoped that some of the artwork produced in our soirees will be exhibited in RVC's Horizons in Nature Show on June 4.
