Landscape Painting Lecture

  • Ridge and Valley Conservancy 16 Main Street Blairstown, NJ 07825 (map)

The Landscape, like other art genres, is a vehicle for personal expression and tells us much about the moment in time in which we are living. In this free lecture we will take a look at the way artists have approached landscape painting and what they reveal about moments in cultural history. Friedrich (above) working in the Romantic period will look starkly different from a Cezanne or Van Gogh painting at the end of the 19th century.
We will see that in spite of the cultural developments that landscape art consistently uses the same compositional devices and formal techniques that make these works masterworks.
